Spend
a lovely holiday in the luxurious farmhouse in Sansepolcro,
Tuscany. Tucked away in the hills above Sansepolcro,
the farmhouse was built over 200 years ago. The farmhouse
is next to a 12th century San Cerbone shrine that was
visited by Saint Francis of Assisi on the way to his
pilgrimage to Rome. The beautiful farmhouse though restored
still retains its marvelous features of old seasoned
polished pianelli floors, a working stone fireplace,
chestnut beamed ceilings, double aspected rooms with
high ceilings and long views and big terraces positioned
to hold the sun’s rays throughout the day. The
farmhouse also has an old-fashioned, in-built working
walk-in bread and pizza oven, garage and a range of
outhouse buildings including a small deconsecrated private
church with altar, pews and seating for 12 people.
FIRST FLOOR: Evolving
over two floors, the farmhouse has 3 double and 2 twin
bedded rooms on the upper floor and one twin bedded
room on the ground floor. Perched on a hillside, the
farmhouse is accessed through the ground floor and linked
through the upper level by means of a stone staircase
inside the premises. A porch opens into the main entrance
that leads to the upper floor. A lovely living room
displays a big double aspected space furnished tastefully
with a large sofa, armchairs and a 1851 working stone
surrounded fireplace, satellite TV and video. A beautiful
vista displays the medieval city of Anghiari and the
plain of Sansepolcro. Airy and large, the bedrooms are
comfortable and furnished reflecting the Tusacn lifestyle.
The biggest bedroom is double aspected with a beamed
ceiling, king-size sleigh bed and ensuite bathroom with
bath.
Giving space a deeper aspect, there are 2 more large
double bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has a traditional
Italian king-size wrought-iron bed and antique furniture
and the other has a queen size bed with an ensuite bathroom
with shower. Two more twin bedded rooms share the family
bathroom with lovely views overlook the church which
you can see as you luxuriate in the bath.
GROUND FLOOR: Built
at first as a cantina, the ground floor is charming
with the entrance through double French doors. A broad
pergola covered terrace runs the length of the front
of the farmhouse through which you can enter the ground
floor. The kitchen is delightful being well equipped,
big, bright and airy with an antique chestnut beamed
ceiling. Created aesthetically, the kitchen has an island
workstation sink unit in the middle with a dishwasher
and a built-in range of chestnut cupboards, fridge/freezer,
gas hob, an electric cooker, with a cooking place surrounded
by stone and granite working surfaces. The walls display
elegant antique dresser shelving units which are versatile
and pleasant besides being convenient. The kitchen opens
out into the dining area through a big entrance arch
shaped and made of stone. The dining room opens out
on to a terrace that is decorated with thriving clematis
and shaded by a vine covered pergola. Pleasing to the
senses the airy terrace runs the length of the front
of the farmhouse. The interior comprises of Tuscan antique,
mountain and country furniture. The antique oak dining
table that seats 12 people sets the ambience for a lovely
country dining experience. The old winery situated at
the back of the ground floor of the farmhouse, now houses
the washing machine and the old unused wine vats. The
terrace is ideal for dining outdoors with an antique
teakwood table that seats 8-10 people.
The sixth bedroom on the ground floor is bright and
airy with twin beds and an ensuite bathroom with shower.
This lovely bedroom opens out through French doors onto
a refreshing green leafy terrace. Though there is no
fixed wire phone, mobile phones are made available for
